It is Finished

Jesus has been arrested, tried, beaten and crucified.  Then John gives us this part of the story –

John 19:28-30 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.”  A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth.  When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Many people say that Jesus was killed and it is true that He did die.  But it was not because it was done to Him.  Jesus willingly gave up His spirit, His life for us on the cross because it was God’s plan for Him.  Jesus’ work on earth was done, “It is finished”, and He died and was buried in the tomb . . . .
