The concept of marriage has gone through a huge transition in the last several years. We used to think of the typical marriage as being the Cleavers or Ricardos, but that is not reality today. As we look around us at the marriages that we have in our lives or have seen, there are great examples and not so great examples. Couples who have been together for 50+ years and those who don’t make it 6 months. Some stay together for a long time but are misserable and others who seem to delight in each other’s presence.

The Bible gives us several different models for marriage including: Polygamy, Concubines, Mutually enhancing careers, Law-Centered Marriage, and Patriarchy just to name a few.  Now I’m pretty sure that most of us don’t practice these models of marriage but they come from the Bible.  So . . . .

What is your idea of a good marriage?

What are the characteristics that are important to you and your marriage or that you want in your marriage?

What Biblical principles or models do you see as important in a marriage today?

I am interested in hearing other ideas and so feel free to share with me and others.

  1. Way to go pastor. Always excited to see someone with a heart for God’s design for marriage. Keep up the good work.
