Sorry about the lack of posts.  As a pastor, I hold the scriptures, the Word of God, very highly.  I beleive that the scriptures were inspired by God and written by people to teach, confront, help, guide and train us in the way God has called humanity to live.  There of course are many different views of scripture that range from it’s just a bunch of jibberish, all the way to the ink on the page was put there by God’s own finger.

How do we view the Bible, what is it’s purpose and how does it affect our lives?  Each of these are questions that we need to answer and be clear of in our own mind.

Let me give you something to think about as you consider scripture –

Scripture is more than –

  • a history book
  • a guide book
  • a story book
  • a rule book
  • a song book

Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”  Eventhough written 2,000 plus years ago, Scripture is God’s word and we need to read it for content and understanding, but we also have to listen to it as God’s word that is living and active and addresses our lives today in 2008.  Scripture addresses our life today, because it is a living and active Word.  If we treat it as anything less, it becomes not much more than a text book.
